I like Lorenzo as a character, even though I
wouldn’t be a friend with him as a person. He’s a real figure with some psychological
problems but he knows how to pretend as a normal child. I like Lorenzo’s special
and I found the warmness in the deep of his mind.
There’s no doubt that he’s different for
everybody that read the book. He showed his indifferent attitude to face other
people and problems. He knew how to protect himself. When he understand his
problem and heard the conversation between his parents, he said to himself, ”Lorenzo
is a normal child.” He knew that’s what his parent wanted him to be like. Thus,
“I was like a sardine in a school of sardines.” He intimated normal people to
make him normal. He knew how to control his anger and make him safe. I can see
his clear mind that he always knew what he should do and what’s good for him to
do. He’s a mature character, which I like in the book.
Meanwhile, he’s cold, but also warm. He recognized
people that are special in his mind. His parent has said, “He believes he is
special and only people as special as him can understand him.” Although he’s
cold to people that were not special in his mind, he was really kind to the
important ones. For example, his mother was the special one. Lorenzo made up a
lie about the “ski weak”, and he wanted to tell the truth. For making his
mother happy, he decided not to say about the lie. In my perspective, it’s
because of the love to the mother. I saw the true humanity of Lorenzo, and I’m
sure it would be truly lucky that someone has been loved by Lorenzo.
As a result, I like Lorenzo as the
character and I like to see the story of him.
