the incident with the car and Lorenzo's mother

Lorenzo and his mom were stuck in traffic. They talked happily. Then, they got a car accident with a LAZIO when they are parking and their car was a BMW. The LAZIO was missing its left wing mirror. The guy in the car is kind of crazy and being angry. The guy just blame Lorenzo’s mother and grabbed her by the wrist and yanked her. He spit on her and finally left. Lorenzo was angry and he thought he should react. However, he didn’t do anything and his mother just sprawled on the cobbles.

The incident made Lorenzo fainted. He’s afraid of the man even though he truly wanted to do something. He cannot help his mother and I think he might think he’s too weak to protect his mother. It’s something unbearable in Lorenzo’s young mind. It stimulate his mind and make he think he’s just a coward. This made him started hate the song and the memory related with that car accident.

It’s important to him because it’s a event prove that there’s something that he cannot do. He started to know the weakness in his personality. It’s too profound for a young boy and even though Lorenzo wanted to kill that man, he could do nothing. His mother, which he respected got insulted, so it’s important and would be unforgotten in his mind.

Do you like Lorenzo as a character or not and why?

I like Lorenzo as a character, even though I wouldn’t be a friend with him as a person. He’s a real figure with some psychological problems but he knows how to pretend as a normal child. I like Lorenzo’s special and I found the warmness in the deep of his mind.

There’s no doubt that he’s different for everybody that read the book. He showed his indifferent attitude to face other people and problems. He knew how to protect himself. When he understand his problem and heard the conversation between his parents, he said to himself, ”Lorenzo is a normal child.” He knew that’s what his parent wanted him to be like. Thus, “I was like a sardine in a school of sardines.” He intimated normal people to make him normal. He knew how to control his anger and make him safe. I can see his clear mind that he always knew what he should do and what’s good for him to do. He’s a mature character, which I like in the book.

Meanwhile, he’s cold, but also warm. He recognized people that are special in his mind. His parent has said, “He believes he is special and only people as special as him can understand him.” Although he’s cold to people that were not special in his mind, he was really kind to the important ones. For example, his mother was the special one. Lorenzo made up a lie about the “ski weak”, and he wanted to tell the truth. For making his mother happy, he decided not to say about the lie. In my perspective, it’s because of the love to the mother. I saw the true humanity of Lorenzo, and I’m sure it would be truly lucky that someone has been loved by Lorenzo.

As a result, I like Lorenzo as the character and I like to see the story of him.

reaction

According to the first chapter of the book, the main character called Lorenzo lies to her mother about a "ski week". He said that his friends asked him to go a ski week with them but actually he didn't have any friends. This might be a interesting book to see a strange personality of the character. He's a different person, with some different identity compared with normal people. I'm looking forward to see a strange life of Lorenzo.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – An Excellent Play

After school’s play in autumn called “Galileo Galilei”, I started to look forward the Winter Theatre program. The play is called The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which the music and lyrics is written by William Finn and Book’s written by Rachel Sheinkin. The story is about a spelling competition called spelling bee. Six spellers were the main character in the competition and each of them came to the competition with his or her stories. They all have different ways to spell words and they have totally different personalities. I like the play by the special way it portrayed characters, the musical form of the play and the interesting plot of the play.

Firstly, I love the shaping of those characters. They are all different. Chip is the champion of the previous Spelling Bee that his proud and always think about girls. Logainne grew up with her two fathers. She was the youngest speller and always wished to be accepted by America. Leaf was the character I like the most. He was naughty and silly in my mind when I first see him. However, he’s just a poor boy who has been ignored by his whole family and wished to justify him. Marcy was a clever and arrogant girl who seemed to know everything, but when she understood that it’s not guilty to do something wrong, she found what she truly wants to do in her life. Olive was a shy girl who always wished to see her father in the spelling bee. Lastly, the winner, William was a clever boy who had a magic foot. He thought nobody liked him, but he might get the respect and friendship from his opponent, Olive. They were all independent people and they are all important in the play.

About the form of the play, it’s more likely to be a musical than a normal play. I heard many beautiful songs in the whole play and have been moved deeply. For example, I can never forget the scene when Olive’s father and mother thing together to show their love of Olive. The sound was so beautiful that it’s continuing wondering in my mind and could never leave. The music throughout the show makes it more complete and give audiences a better impression to understand the show. I remembered Logainne’s dream of being a perfect American, I remembered the dream that William wanted somebody to like him, and I remembered Chip’s anger of being out. The scenes are real with the music.

The plot was another thing I like in the play. It’s not so breathtaking, but still logical and out of my imaginary. For example, when one of Logainne’s father poured his drink on the floor to try to ruin William’s magic foot, I thought he was going to loose forsooth. However, he lastly spelled the world and I felt his surprise while he said, “I can make it without a foot!” Dramatically, Logainne was the loser of that round. I paid attention to the entire play and all the scenes was in my mind.

Lastly, I wish more people would see the excellent play that brought me happiness and pleasant. The show was beautiful, which made me already started looking forward the play coming this spring season.
